I have used the Resolve powder on "mystery" stains in the houses I bought, on ancient stains renters have left, stains NOTHING else could ever get out -- it's amazing.

Ok, so I digress from the directions somewhat, but it works even better that way. I do only use it for spots, not whole carpet cleaning, and I just scrub it into the stain, feather it out, and leave it while I vacuum other areas. THEN I come back and vacuum the spot, and ta-da, it's gone. On stubborn stains, I'll leave it scrubbed in for longer times and on those extra stubborn ones, it slowly continues to lighten the spot over time.

Now, I do have to say, I use a good o'le fashioned bag vacuum (but nothing fancy like a fresh bag -- just normal vacuuming), so I can't contest that others with "bagless" vacuums might not have problems.

So, for "old school" lower tech vacuums, for spot work, for "mystery stains", I HIGHLY recommend the Resolve Powder -- and I don't ever want to be without it.

Thank you to the poster who said it may be available at Wal-Mart -- I have had to hunt it down online for the past few years. I will check there tomorrow!

Safely Clean Carpets

Deep Clean Powder cleans up to an 8-by-10-foot localized area. Safely cleans carpets, including stain-resistant carpets, except special carpets like antique or oriental rugs. The powder works well on tough stains, including ground-in dirt. RESOLVE bottles are made out of 25 percent post-consumer recycled plastic.

Directions:

Before cleaning, test a hidden section of carpet for colorfastness.

1. Shake container vigorously before each use to maximize product coverage.

2. Sprinkle powder on generously to thoroughly cover soiled areas. Apply to no more than a 2-by-5-foot area at a time to prevent moist powder from drying out.

3. Using a soft bristle brush, immediately brush the powder thoroughly into carpet. Brush until all soil disappears. IMPORTANT: While cleaning, if soil/stain remain, apply more powder and continue brushing until soiled areas look as clean as the rest of the carpet.

4. Wait at least 20 minutes for powder to dry, then vacuum. Use an empty vacuum bag for best results.

5. To store, replace cap tightly. After use, rinse brush and allow to dry.
